Vanajeevi Ramaiah Passes Away Due to Heart Attack

Vanajeevi Ramaiah, renowned environmentalist and recipient of the Padma Shri award, passed away in the early hours of today following a heart attack. He was 85 years old.
Ramaiah, fondly known as "Vanajeevi" (Forest Being), dedicated his entire life to planting and nurturing trees. His passionate commitment to afforestation earned him this unique household title. Hailing from Reddypalli village in Khammam district, he created a remarkable legacy by planting over one crore (ten million) saplings, setting a new record in the field of environmental conservation.
In recognition of his tireless efforts toward ecological preservation, the Government of India honored Vanajeevi Ramaiah with the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2017.
