Chennai Super Kings suffered a crushing defeat on their home ground. In the Indian Premier League match held at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the team was comprehensively beaten by Kolkata Knight Riders with a margin of 8 wickets.
Batting first, Chennai Super Kings were restricted to a score of just 103 for 9 in their 20 overs. Kolkata Knight Riders, in response, chased down the modest target of 104 runs in just 10.1 overs, losing only 2 wickets and scoring 107 runs in total.
Quinton de Kock scored 23 runs, Sunil Narine made a quick 44, while captain Ajinkya Rahane remained unbeaten on 20. Rinku Singh also stayed not out with 15 runs. Despite the low total, Kolkata Knight Riders gave no opportunity to Chennai Super Kings, storming through the first powerplay with 71 runs.
Opener Quinton de Kock hit 3 sixes, and fellow opener Sunil Narine shocked the hosts with 2 fours and 5 sixes. Among Chennai’s bowlers, Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad claimed one wicket each.
This marks the fifth defeat for Chennai Super Kings in the current IPL season. Despite a change in captaincy, the team's fortunes have not improved. With Ruturaj Gaikwad sidelined due to injury, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has resumed captaincy, but the team’s situation has only worsened, as reflected in this latest loss.
