How a Poster Inspired Director Vamsi to Cast Actress Madhuri

Director Vamsi is known for his distinct and unconventional filmmaking style. He has delivered several major hits despite working with minimal budgets. Songs from his films have remained popular for decades, with many viewers still revisiting his films and repeatedly listening to the music.

Among Vamsi's notable films is Sree Kanaka Mahalaxmi Recording Dance Troupe, which was released in 1987 and achieved significant success at the time. Recently, Vamsi spoke about this film in a video, revealing several behind-the-scenes details about its making.

"I initially titled the film Sree Kanaka Mahalaxmi Recording Dance Troupe – Rajahmundry. Many remarked that the title was too long, especially due to the inclusion of 'Rajahmundry' at the end. So, I eventually removed that word. Even then, people felt the title remained lengthy, but I didn’t bother further and proceeded with the film’s work," said Vamsi.

Vamsi shared that he had envisioned actor Naresh in the lead role. "Naresh had no trace of arrogance about being the son of Vijaya Nirmala. We used to spend time together, and I came to know early on what a good person he was," Vamsi stated.

He went on to describe how he selected the film’s heroine. "One day, while walking along Kodambakkam Road, I noticed a poster for the film Samsaram Adhu Minsaram (translated as Marriage Is a Game of Chess). I was struck by the girl in the poster, especially her large eyes, and felt she looked very good. I then went to the theatre to watch the film, eagerly waiting for her appearance on screen. When she did, I found her even more impressive than in the poster. I inquired about her and found out her name was Madhuri. I called her to the office for a photo session and decided that she would be the heroine of my film," Vamsi said.

He added, "After selecting her, I proceeded to cast Kota Srinivasa Rao, Mallikarjuna Rao, Rallapalli, and Bhanuchander in supporting roles."
