IPL 2025: BCCI Imposes Heavy Fine on Glenn Maxwell

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed a heavy fine on Punjab Kings all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Chennai Super Kings. As part of the penalty, 25 percent of Glenn Maxwell’s match fee has been deducted, and one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record.

According to the BCCI’s official statement, Glenn Maxwell was found guilty of committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The statement further noted that Maxwell accepted the match referee’s decision, leading to the imposition of the fine.

Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct deals with offences related to the abuse or disrespect of cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment, and other items. It includes actions such as kicking the stumps, behaving recklessly, and showing aggression towards advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows, and other objects. The punishment for such behaviour is clearly specified under this rule. Maxwell is reported to have engaged in such conduct during the recent match, prompting disciplinary action from the IPL management.

Glenn Maxwell had a disappointing outing with the bat during Tuesday’s match against Chennai Super Kings, where he was dismissed after scoring just one run. He fell to the bowling of Chennai spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

Despite Maxwell’s failure, Punjab Kings secured victory in the closely fought encounter, winning by a margin of 18 runs. Batting first after winning the toss, Punjab Kings posted a formidable total of 219 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Young opener Priyansh Arya became the Indian to score the second-fastest century in IPL history, reaching the milestone in just 39 balls.

In response, Chennai Super Kings managed to score only 201 runs for the loss of five wickets at the end of their 20 overs, resulting in Punjab Kings clinching the win.
