Pawan Kalyan’s Convoy Did Not Delay JEE Students, Says Visakhapatnam CP

Following widespread criticism that students were delayed for the JEE (Main) examination due to Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s convoy in Visakhapatnam, Commissioner of Police Shankha Brata Bagchi has denied the allegations, stating they are baseless.

The incident came to light after several students were reportedly late to the exam conducted yesterday in Visakhapatnam, with accusations emerging that Pawan Kalyan’s convoy obstructed traffic, particularly in the Pendurthi area, preventing students from reaching the examination center on time. Pawan Kalyan was on an official visit to the Alluri district at the time.

In response to the controversy, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan ordered an investigation into the matter. He directed Visakhapatnam police to submit a report detailing how long traffic was stopped for the convoy, what the traffic situation was like at the time students were traveling to the examination center, and whether traffic was managed properly on the service roads.

Based on this directive, Visakhapatnam Commissioner of Police Shankha Brata Bagchi issued a clarification, denying the allegations made by some students from Pendurthi. "There is no truth to the allegations that students could not attend the JEE (Main) exam because of the Deputy Chief Minister’s convoy," said Shankha Brata Bagchi.

He further stated, "We did not impose any traffic restrictions during the Deputy Chief Minister's visit. The allegations made by students and their parents are unfounded."

Shankha Brata Bagchi claimed that the students arrived late on their own and subsequently blamed the police. He added that CCTV footage was carefully reviewed and that the mobile phones of the students who arrived late were also tracked. “There was no inconvenience caused to students due to the police. The Deputy Chief Minister’s convoy left the area only after the students had already reached the examination center,” he clarified.
