Bhuvneshwar Surpasses Bravo to Set New IPL Bowling Record

Bhuvneshwar Kumar of Royal Challengers Bengaluru has created a new record in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has become the highest wicket-taking fast bowler in IPL history, surpassing former Chennai Super Kings bowler Dwayne Bravo. Bhuvneshwar Kumar achieved this milestone by taking the wicket of Tilak Varma during the match against Mumbai Indians on Monday.
At 35 years of age, the swing specialist has taken 184 wickets in 179 IPL matches. With this feat, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has also become the third-highest wicket-taker in IPL history overall. Only Yuzvendra Chahal (206 wickets) and Piyush Chawla (192 wickets) are ahead of him.
The top five highest wicket-taking fast bowlers in IPL history are as follows:
Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 184 wickets (179 innings)
Dwayne Bravo – 183 wickets (158 innings)
Lasith Malinga – 170 wickets (122 innings)
Jasprit Bumrah – 165 wickets (134 innings)
Umesh Yadav – 144 wickets (147 innings)
This season, the wicket against Mumbai Indians marked Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s third in the ongoing IPL. Except for the season opener against Kolkata Knight Riders, he has played in all matches so far. Prior to joining Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Bhuvneshwar Kumar had been with Sunrisers Hyderabad for the past 11 years.
Speaking about the transition, Bhuvneshwar Kumar said, “Playing for one team for 11 years and then moving to a new team can be challenging for anyone. But the environment at Royal Challengers Bengaluru is very different. The way they welcome and support all players is truly special. So, being in Bengaluru is a great feeling.”
