Hanamkonda Police Nab Andhra Bookie Linked to ₹5 Crore Betting Racket

A bookie from Andhra Pradesh was arrested in Hanamkonda, according to a statement by the Hanamkonda police. Ten days ago, police had detained several individuals involved in cricket betting in the Padmakshi Colony area of Hanamkonda. Based on information provided by the detained suspects, the police arrested Veeramani Kumar from Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, in Hanamkonda yesterday for operating as a bookie.
In 2023, Veeramani Kumar had traveled to Goa, where he became acquainted with Hyderabad-based bookie Yogesh Gupta. During their interaction, Yogesh Gupta introduced Veeramani Kumar to online betting applications and promised him a 9% share of the profits if he facilitated betting operations through these platforms. After Veeramani Kumar agreed, Gupta provided him with a betting app link, user ID, and password.
Since then, Veeramani Kumar has been organizing bets with various individuals. He reportedly earned significant profits through these betting applications. Approximately ₹5 crore was deposited in his bank accounts. From this amount, he transferred ₹3 crore to Yogesh Gupta, paid ₹1 crore to individuals who had won bets, and used the remaining ₹1 crore to purchase a flat in Kakinada and acquire two liquor shops.
Upon arrest, police seized ₹1.5 lakh in cash and two mobile phones from Veeramani Kumar. Yogesh Gupta is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to trace him.
