U.S. Tariffs Hit Andhra Aquaculture, Chandrababu Writes to Piyush Goyal

Following the initiation of a global tariff conflict by United States President Donald Trump, ripple effects are being felt across the world, including in Andhra Pradesh, India. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed concern over the impact of U.S.-imposed tariffs on the state’s aquaculture sector.

On this matter, N. Chandrababu Naidu has written a letter to Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal. In his letter, N. Chandrababu Naidu stated that domestic aqua farmers are incurring losses due to the imposition of a 27 percent tariff by the United States on Indian seafood exports.

He appealed to the central government to urge the U.S. administration to reduce the high tariff rates and to seek exemptions for aqua products. N. Chandrababu Naidu mentioned that due to the high tariffs, several international buyers are cancelling their orders, leaving aqua producers in Andhra Pradesh without sufficient cold storage space to store their produce.

He emphasized that the fisheries sector is a significant contributor to the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and urged the central government to support aqua farmers during this crisis.

Bringing the distress faced by aqua farmers to the attention of Piyush Goyal, N. Chandrababu Naidu requested the Union Minister to take immediate action to resolve the issue.
