400 Acres at Risk: KTR Warns of Mass Movement if Government Fails to Act

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President and former Minister K.T. Rama Rao has expressed deep concern over what he described as environmental destruction occurring in the Kanch Gachibowli and Hyderabad Central University (HCU) surrounding areas. In the context of a 400-acre land dispute, K.T. Rama Rao addressed an open letter today to the people of Telangana, the student community, and environmentalists.
K.T. Rama Rao strongly criticised the policies of the Revanth Reddy-led government, alleging that decisions being taken in connection with the HCU lands are causing severe harm to the environment. He stated, “Nearly 400 acres of green land—home to hundreds of species of trees, birds, and animals—are now under threat.”
He accused the government of destroying the environment for economic gain, asserting that the administration is prioritising financial benefit over ecological protection. K.T. Rama Rao declared full support for the peaceful protest by HCU students, who are fighting to save the forest. He condemned the government's actions of blaming students and threatening to relocate the university, calling such measures a reflection of what he described as the administration's “real estate mindset.”
K.T. Rama Rao alleged that the government has launched a new deceit under the pretext of developing an “Eco Park,” while actually conspiring to encroach upon forest land instead of preserving it. He denounced the government’s warnings that the university might be relocated if protests continue.
Calling for solidarity with students fighting for environmental conservation, K.T. Rama Rao pledged that the BRS party would protect Gachibowli and HCU. He demanded that the government comply with Supreme Court orders and cancel the proposed land sale. He urged immediate governmental action to protect the environment, warning that if the government failed to respond, the BRS would lead a large-scale movement.
