From Adavi Ramudu to Rajamouli: K. Raghavendra Rao Shares His Journey

Legendary film director K. Raghavendra Rao requires no special introduction. Widely known as “Darshakendra” in the Indian film industry, he is acclaimed for directing a wide range of films and for mentoring many actors who later rose to become star heroes. He has also taught acting skills to numerous individuals, enabling them to establish themselves in the film industry. Several of those who trained under K. Raghavendra Rao have gone on to succeed as film directors. The credit for introducing directors like S. S. Rajamouli to the industry is attributed to K. Raghavendra Rao.

Although he is not currently directing films, K. Raghavendra Rao continues to supervise various film projects. Most recently, the web series Katha Sudha, produced under his supervision, is set to premiere on a major OTT platform. During a promotional event for this series, K. Raghavendra Rao gave an interview in which he shared interesting reflections on his cinematic journey.

K. Raghavendra Rao stated, “It is because of N. T. Rama Rao that I am at this level.” He said that the film Adavi Ramudu, which he directed with N. T. Rama Rao, played a significant role in the advancement of his career. He mentioned that the film ran for one hundred days at the time and that he still keeps the movie’s commemorative shield at home as a memory.

He noted that he had made several films with N. T. Rama Rao and expressed that the actor’s performances always amazed him. “I have never seen an actor like him,” K. Raghavendra Rao remarked.

Speaking about his former disciple S. S. Rajamouli, K. Raghavendra Rao expressed joy over Rajamouli’s rise to pan-India fame. “There is a sense of satisfaction in having given Rajamouli to the film industry. That alone is enough for me,” K. Raghavendra Rao said.
