Mumbai Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrant Against Ram Gopal Varma

A Mumbai court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against noted filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma in connection with a cheque bounce case. The warrant was issued after the court rejected Varma’s plea to overturn a jail sentence imposed on him by a judicial court.
The case dates back to 2018 when a company filed a complaint, alleging that a cheque issued by Ram Gopal Varma's firm had bounced. On January 21, the Judicial Magistrate (First Class) at Andheri, Y.P. Pujari, ruled that Varma was guilty under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act and sentenced him to three months in jail. Additionally, the court directed him to pay ₹3,72,219 to the complainant within three months.
Varma challenged this verdict in the Sessions Court. However, on March 4, the court dismissed his appeal and issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him. The court also refused to revoke the jail sentence imposed on him.
The judge clarified that Ram Gopal Varma could appear before the court and apply for bail if he wished to do so.
