Telangana High Court Cancels Land Acquisition Notification in Lagcherla and Hakimpet

The Telangana High Court has issued a stay on land acquisition in Lagcherla and Hakimpet, dealing a setback to the Revanth Reddy-led state government. The court has directed the government to halt the land acquisition process and has issued interim orders to this effect.

The Telangana government had issued a notification for land acquisition in Lagcherla for the establishment of a pharmaceutical company. However, local farmers opposed the project. During a visit by the district collector to gather farmers' opinions, a violent attack occurred, leading to several arrests. In response, petitions were filed in the High Court, urging the government to stop the establishment of pharmaceutical companies in Lagcherla. After reviewing the petitions, the court stayed the land acquisition, revoked the notification, and postponed further hearings.

In a separate case, a person named Shivakumar challenged the land acquisition notification for Hakimpet in the High Court. He sought its cancellation and requested a stay until the notification was revoked. The government had issued the notification on November 29 of the previous year for the acquisition of 351 acres to develop an industrial park. However, the petitioner argued that compensation was not being provided as per the 2013 Land Acquisition Act.
