"No Mangalsutra, No Bindi... Why Would Your Husband Be Interested?": Judge's Remarks to a Woman
A judge made noteworthy remarks while mediating a dispute between a married couple living separately. According to Pune-based lawyer Ankur R. Jagirdar, who shared details of the case on LinkedIn, the judge was entrusted with the responsibility of mediating in a domestic violence case.
"The judge advised the couple to resolve their differences amicably. He questioned the woman, saying, 'You are not wearing a mangalsutra, nor do you have a bindi on your forehead. Is this how a married woman should present herself? If you look like this, why would your husband be interested in you?'" Jagirdar reported.
The lawyer also mentioned another instance in which the same sessions judge made notable remarks during a different mediation. "If a woman earns, she usually wants to marry someone who earns more than her. She would never settle for a man who earns less than her. However, a wealthy man could marry even a housemaid who washes dishes. Look at how simple men are! Women should also be like that and not be rigid in their expectations," Jagirdar quoted the judge as saying.
