“Rohit Sharma Is a Rockstar”: KTR Apologizes for Congress Spokesperson’s Remarks
Congress spokesperson Shama Mohammed's body-shaming remarks about Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma have sparked controversy. She commented that Rohit Sharma is overweight and needs to lose weight. Additionally, she criticized his performance, claiming that he is the most unimpressive captain in India's history and became captain merely by luck. These remarks, made via social media, have drawn widespread criticism.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and cricket fans strongly condemned Shama Mohammed’s statements. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also expressed disappointment, calling her comments unfortunate. Several former cricketers and political figures also stated that her remarks were inappropriate.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president and former minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) reacted to the controversy on social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter). He criticized the Congress party, saying that making derogatory and body-shaming remarks is not new for them.
"I don’t understand why so many people are upset over the Congress spokesperson’s comments about Rohit Sharma. Body-shaming, derogatory remarks, and misleading statements are core traits of the Congress party. The idea that Rohit Sharma needs fitness advice or lectures on victories from a Congress spokesperson is laughable.
Are you aware that a Telangana minister is facing court proceedings for making derogatory remarks about film stars and their families? Rohit Bhai, as a fellow Indian, I apologize for the distress you faced. You are an absolute rockstar. No unintelligent political leader’s opinion can tarnish your reputation," KTR posted on X.
