South Africa has secured a spot in the semifinals of the Champions Trophy after a commanding victory over England in their final Group B league match. The match, held in Karachi, saw South Africa dominate with a seven-wicket win.
England, opting to bat first after winning the toss, was bowled out for 179 runs in 38.2 overs. In response, South Africa comfortably chased the target, reaching 180/3 in just 29.1 overs. Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen played crucial roles in the chase, making the victory a smooth affair for the Proteas.
Klaasen entertained with exquisite cover drives, scoring 64 runs off 56 balls, including 11 boundaries. Van der Dussen remained unbeaten on 72 off 87 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes. Earlier, opener Tristan Stubbs, who was promoted up the order, was dismissed for a duck, while fellow opener Ryan Rickelton contributed 27 runs. Klaasen’s dismissal brought David Miller to the crease, who finished the match in style with a massive six.
With this win, South Africa topped Group B, while Australia finished in second place. The semifinal matchups will be determined after tomorrow’s crucial clash between India and New Zealand.
