Team India’s Bowling Coach Morne Morkel Returns to South Africa Ahead of Champions Trophy
India has faced an unexpected setback before the Champions Trophy, as Team India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel has returned to his home country. Morkel departed for South Africa from Dubai and was absent from the team’s practice session on Monday.
India is set to play its first match of the tournament against Bangladesh on February 20. However, there is no clarity on when Morkel will rejoin the squad. Reports indicate that he left to attend the funeral of his father, who passed away recently.
Concerns have been raised about the impact of his absence on India’s performance in the Champions Trophy. The tournament features eight teams, with India scheduled to play its matches in Dubai, while the other teams will compete at venues in Pakistan.
Pakistan won the last edition of the Champions Trophy in 2017.
