ICC Champions Trophy: Shikhar Dhawan Honored as Tournament Ambassador

The ICC Champions Trophy is set to take place from June 19 in Pakistan and Dubai. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has been selected as one of the tournament's ambassadors. The announcement was made on Wednesday, with ICC naming a total of four ambassadors for the event.

Alongside Dhawan, the 2017 Champions Trophy-winning Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, and New Zealand's legendary fast bowler Tim Southee have been appointed as ambassadors for the tournament.

Dhawan played a crucial role in India's 2013 Champions Trophy victory under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. His stellar performances in that edition earned him the "Man of the Tournament" title. Dhawan also holds the record for the most centuries in Champions Trophy history and remains the only cricketer to have won the "Golden Bat" award in two consecutive editions of the tournament. This remarkable record contributed to his selection as an ambassador.

"Being part of the Champions Trophy is always a special feeling. It is an honor to be an ambassador for the upcoming edition. This tournament is built on passion, pride, and determination, making it an intense and emotional journey for every participant," Dhawan stated in an ICC release.
