Hyderabad Reports First Case of Guillain-Barré Syndrome; Woman Under Treatment on Ventilator
A case of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), which has been causing concern in Maharashtra, has now been reported in Hyderabad. This marks the first recorded case in the city. According to doctors, a woman from the Siddipet region has been diagnosed with the syndrome and is currently receiving treatment on a ventilator at a private hospital in Hyderabad.
Maharashtra has already reported over 100 cases of GBS. Medical experts indicate that individuals with weakened immune systems are more susceptible to this condition. The syndrome occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body's own nervous system.
Patients affected by GBS experience symptoms such as body numbness, muscle weakness, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, and vomiting, according to health specialists. The bacteria responsible for this condition can be transmitted through contaminated food and water. However, doctors emphasize that GBS is not a contagious disease and can be treated effectively with proper medical care.
