TS to go ahead with Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project despite AP objections

Hyderabad, March 18, 2015:Despite strong objections by AP Government and its complaints to Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) ,Telangana Government has given administrative go-ahead to its Palamuru-Ranga Reddy lift irrigation scheme that aims to irrigate 7 lakh acres in Mahabub Nagar district,2.7 lakh acres in Ranga Reddy district and 0.3 lakh acres in Nalgonda district. The Project that will lift 70 TNC of Krishna flood water at Jurala Project is estimated to cost around Rs.25, 000 Cr. According to AP Reorganisation Act, both AP and Telangana Governments have take permission of Krishna or Godavari River Management Board to construct new project. However, AP has not taken permission from Godari Board to construct Pattiseema project to be constructed on Godavari River. Similarly, Telangana too did not take permission from Krishna Management Board to construct the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy lift irrigation project on Krishna. Speaking on the objections put up by AP to the project, Telangana irrigation adviser Vidyasagara Rao asked: "With whose permission are they building the Pattiseema project. Whose permission we need to build our Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project?"
