Principal forces pregnancy test on minor girl in EG district

Kakinada, March 16, 2015: In an unusual incident, a government-run social welfare school principal in EG district has ordered pregnancy test on a 13-year old minor girl after he suspected that she had an affair with one of the teachers. After the pregnancy test was forced on the girl by the Zaddangi tribal welfare residential school Principal Ch. Sundara Rao, the girl complained to the MLA V.Rajeswari when she came to inspect the school. She pulled up the Principal and other staff members for forcing the test on the innocent girl. The MLA told reporters that the Principal has been inquiring with the girls whether they are getting their periods regularly or not to confirm that they are not pregnant. The school nurse accompanied the girl when the test was forced on her. The hapless girl told the MLA that she had already complained to the Mandal education officer and tribal welfare officer but no action was taken against the Principal and the nurse. Other girls also complained to the MLA that the nurse was maintaining records of their menstrual details on the orders of the Principal. Later, on a complaint from the MLA, Tribal Welfare Deputy Director Manikumar has ordered an inquiry into the incident. "If the Principal is at fault , we will take action," he promised.
