AP to distribute 2 Cr LED bulbs to households

Hyderabad, March 9, 2015: As part of the plans to make Andhra Pradesh incandescent bulb free state and achieve the goals of energy saving, Government has directed Municipal offices across the state to replace all conventional street lights with high energy efficient LED lights by end of the financial year 2015-16. The government asked them to distribute 2 crore LED bulbs to one-crore households simultaneously to have a energy saving of 500 MW of power in the domestic sector. The Government has taken up this programme under the Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation ( EE and EC) scheme to turn the state into the best energy efficient state in the next few years. Not sparing the DISCOMs, Government has instructed to reduce the transmission losses to 9 per cent from the present 12 per cent by the end of 2015-16. The authorities have already completed distribution of 36 lakh LED bulbs in Visakhapatnam region under the program.
