First organ donation in AP, liver, heart, eyes,lungs taken from brain dead person

Guntur, March 6, 2015:In the first organ donation reported from AP, doctors took out the organs of brain dead youth Manikanta at NRI Hospital at Mangalagiri in a lengthy operation today. Doctors have collected heart, kidneys, liver,lungs and eyes from the body of Manikanta whose brain had gone dead in a road accident in Vijayawada. Arrangements are being made to shift the organs in a special ambulance to Gannavaram airport. The police have made arrangements to clear traffic for the smooth passage of the ambulance carrying the organs to the airport. From Gannavaram, heart and lungs would be sent to Chennai while one kidney and liver to Hyderabad Global Hospitals by special ambulance-aircraft. One kidney is being sent to a Guntur hospital. The parents of Manikanta have agreed to give life to the needy by donating his organs. The NRI hospital management has helped the family of Manikanta with an ex-gratia of Rs. 10 lakh for coming forward to donate his organs.
