TS to close down 4200 govt primary schools
Hyderabad, March 5, 2015: Telangana Government is all set to shut down 4200 Government primary schools in the state in the next academic year for lack of admissions.
In a survey conducted by the Telangana Schools Department, it was found that 4200 schools are handicapped by the lack of admissions or admissions ranging from 0 to 20 students.
While there are no admissions in 400 schools, admissions ranged from 1 to 10 in 1100 schools. In 2700 schools, the admissions ranged from 11 to 20.
According to a GO issued last year by the Telangana Government, all primary schools having admissions between 1 to 20 would be shut down. In such a case, the students of these schools would be accommodated in other government schools.
Though the Government issued a GO last September for closing them down, it kept the decision pending after teachers' associations objected to the move.
However, the Government is seriously considering to implement its decision and will make an official announcement in the next few days.
