Lucky Baskhar: A Fresh Take on Indian Cinema, Set for Diwali Release

Dulquer Salmaan, one of Indian cinema’s leading multilingual actors, is set to star in Lucky Baskhar, a film depicting the extraordinary journey of an ordinary man. Directed and written by  Venky Atluri, The release date has been confirmed for 31st October, coinciding with the Diwali holiday.

During a recent media interaction, director Venky Atluri and producer Naga Vamsi shared details about the film’s promotional plans. Atluri revealed that the theatrical trailer will be launched on 21st October, while the pre-release event is scheduled for 26th or 27th October across Telugu states. Additionally, the movie will have special premiere screenings starting from the evening of 30th October.

Both the director and producer expressed confidence in the film’s unique appeal, promising audiences a fresh and entertaining experience. Atluri disclosed that he drew inspiration from the Hollywood classic The Wolf of Wall Street, but emphasized that no scenes from any existing film were borrowed. Instead, he sought to introduce a new genre to Indian cinema with Lucky Baskhar.

On casting Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role, Atluri explained that he needed an actor who could portray a distinct character while embodying the traits of a middle-class protagonist. He praised Salmaan’s natural charm and performance, calling it outstanding. Without revealing too much, the director hinted that the film touches on India’s banking system during the late 1980s and early 1990s. 

He assured audiences that the film’s screenplay is accessible and won’t overwhelm viewers with technical jargon.Atluri mentioned that real-life events served as inspiration, particularly in the depiction of the banking system during that era. He undertook significant research to infuse the story with authenticity, while ensuring that the narrative remained fictional. To further refine the script, he consulted experts, seeking advice to make the story as credible as possible.

The filmmakers also shared that Lucky Baskhar was produced on a grand scale, with promotions planned carefully after the buzz around Devara had subsided. Atluri praised composer G.V. Prakash Kumar’s dedication, highlighting how songs like "Srimathi Garu" and the film’s title track have already gained popularity.

Earlier, the production team had disclosed that production designer Banglan meticulously recreated authentic sets reflecting late-1980s Bombay, with acclaimed cinematographer Nimish Ravi adding a visual richness to the film. Actress Meenakshi Chaudhary stars alongside Dulquer Salmaan in the film.


Produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi of Sithara Entertainments and Sai Soujanya of Fortune Four Cinemas, the movie is presented by Srikara Studios. The filmmakers are confident that Lucky Baskhar will offer Indian audiences a new kind of commercial cinema, with the central character leaving a lasting impact. The film will release worldwide on 31st October in Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi.
