Infant saved from stray dog attack at Anantapuram

Anantapuram, Feb 22, 2015: A just born baby boy was saved from a stray dog attack at Anantapuram railway station here Saturday morning thanks to an alert police constable who was off duty. When Anand, the APSP constable, was about to catch a train to his native village at the railway station here, an old woman approached him and asked him to help in the search of an infant boy dropped from the hole of lavatory of the Hyderabad - Yeshwantpur Express train compartment. Anand , who was on leave, decided to help the woman in finding the baby. When he launched the search, he found the baby on one of the empty tracks in the station but a stray dog was about to attack the baby and catch it away. He immediately jumped on to the tracks, ran towards the baby and chased away the dog. With the help of others, the old woman tied the umbilical chord of the baby. The infant was rushed to the hospital immediately. While it is believed that the old woman picked up the abandoned baby boy from a bench on the platform, she accidentally dropped it from the lavatory of a compartment. The Anantapuram Railway police officials have said the identity of baby's parents is not yet known. The baby is being treated in the ICU of Government hospital and recovering.
