Srikala Reddy from Telangana Enters the UP Election Fray

In the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections, Srikala Reddy, a woman from Telangana, has entered the political battleground. Due to a criminal conviction, her husband is ineligible to compete, prompting her to run on his behalf. She is contesting for the Lok Sabha from the Jaunpur constituency under the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket. Srikala, originally from Nalgonda in Telangana, is married to Dhanunjay Singh, a prominent political figure in Jaunpur. Dhanunjay, previously married twice, faced legal issues including charges related to kidnapping and extortion, which have prevented him from contesting in this election.

Political and Business Background of Srikala Reddy

Srikala Reddy is the daughter of K. Jitender Reddy, who has served as an MLA from Huzurnagar and as the president of the Nalgonda District Cooperative Society. Her mother, Lalita Reddy, has served as a village council president. The family owns the Nippo Battery company, which led them to reside in Chennai during Srikala's early years. After completing her education in Chennai and a Bachelor of Commerce in Hyderabad, Srikala moved to the United States where she studied architectural interior designing. She returned to help manage the family business and married Dhanunjay Singh in a grand ceremony in Paris in 2017.

Since her marriage, Srikala has been actively involved in politics in Uttar Pradesh alongside her husband and has also served as a Chairperson for the Zila Panchayat. She is now contesting the Lok Sabha seat from Jaunpur on a BSP ticket. According to her affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, Srikala Reddy owns assets worth ₹786.71 crore, including both movable and immovable properties, and jewelry valued at ₹1.74 crore.
