Supreme Court questions delay in AP CM Jagan's disproportionate assets case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today heard the petition filed by MP Raghurama Krishnaraju seeking the cancellation of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy's bail in a disproportionate assets case. In addition, a petition was filed requesting the transfer of the case investigation from Telangana to another state. Both petitions were reviewed by a bench comprising Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Deepankar Datta.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court questioned the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding the delay in the investigation of the disproportionate assets case. The court ordered the CBI to file an affidavit within four weeks explaining the reasons for the delay and instructed to expedite the completion of the investigation.
The additional solicitor general, SV Raju, representing the CBI, mentioned that the delay in the investigation was due to the filing of discharge petitions. The bench emphasized that the investigation should not be delayed due to political reasons and stated that being a Chief Minister or a political leader should not cause delays in the investigation. The bench declared it would consider both petitions together, including the one requesting the transfer of the case investigation. The next hearing was postponed to a week starting from August 5.
