Andhra Pradesh Government Lifts U-1 Zone in Amaravati

In anticipation of the upcoming general elections, the government of Andhra Pradesh has taken a significant decision to lift the U-1 Zone in Amaravati without any conditions. Today, it released a gazette notification announcing the removal of the U-1 Zone.

Previously, an area of 178 acres in the Amaravati region was declared as the U-1 Zone, which prohibited the sale, purchase, and registration of properties within this zone. The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) had promised during the 2019 elections that it would lift the U-1 Zone if it came to power. Farmers had also staged a 140-day-long protest demanding the removal of the U-1 Zone.

Recently, at the Jayaho BC meeting, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu also mentioned the U-1 Zone issue, promising its removal upon returning to power. Nara Lokesh, the National General Secretary of TDP, made the same commitment. However, before this could be realized, the YSRCP government has now reversed the U-1 Zone designation.
