Sitaram Yechuri likely to succeed Prakash Karat
New Delhi:Feb 6, 2015: CPM top leader Sitaram Yechuri is likely to be the successor of the 3-time party General Secretary Prakash karat who will relinquish his party post in April.
All indications are that the party is likely to declare Sitaram Yechuri as the next General Secretary in its national meeting in April.
However, party leader S.Ramachandran Pillai from Kerala may also throw his hat in the tussle to be the successor of Prakash Karat.
Sitaram Yechuri, a post-graduate in Economics from JNU , Delhi , took active part in SFI from 1974 onward and rose to become one of the top leaders of the CPM over a period of time after being inducted into the party politburo in 1992.
Sitaram Yechuri, who openly opposed the Emergency in 1975, was arrested and jailed by the then Congress government and had also gone underground for some months.
