Hyd girl was about to join Islamic State: Police chief

Hyderabad, Jan 31: A 19-year-old NRI teenage girl hailing from Hyderabad had planned to sign up with the Islamic State, according to Commissioner of Police M. Mahendar Reddy here on Saturday. The police chief said the girl had even gone to Turkey for that purpose. The teenager, however, did not undergo military training and has not joined the IS ranks, Mahendar Reddy said. The NRI girl reportedly hails from the southern region of Hyderabad. According to reports, when the girl was staying in Qatar, she accompanied another woman and went up to Turkey. Both of them later changed their minds and did not join IS, reports said. She then contacted her parents and returned to Hyderabad, the police chief said. The incident is believed to have have been reported two months ago, he added. Apparently, during questioning, the girl is said to have informed the police that she decided not to join after seeing the conditions in Iraq and Syria.
