AP asks Centre to take over maintenance of Sagar, Srisailam Dams

Hyderabad, Jan 29, 2015: Alleging violations of directives of Krishna River Management Board and provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act by Telangana Government on the release of water from Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam reservoirs, the Andhra Pradesh Government has asked the Centre to take control of both the Dams from Telangana Government to run its operations in a justified manner. On instructions from Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, irrigation department officials have written to the Centre asking it to take over the maintenance of the two dams from Telangana as KCR Government has done injustice in releasing water to Krishna delta and Nagarjuna Sagar Right Bank Canal after the bifurcation. The officials told the Centre that AP is a lower riparian state and will continue to suffer going by the injustice done to it by Telangana Government in the release of water during the last eight months. "Unless Centre takes over the operations of the two dams, AP will not get water from the reservoirs," the Government has said in its written appeal.
