Indian driver fined, banned in Singapore

Singapore, Jan 21: A Singapore court has banned an Indian national from driving for five years and slapped him with a fine for causing death of a motorcyclist. Paramasivam Bharathi, 46, a lorry driver, admitted in a court Tuesday that he failed to give way to Lim Shung Ren, 28, while making a right turn from Sungei Kadut Street 2 into Sungei Kadut Street 1 June 27 last year, the Straits Times reported. The court has also imposed a fine of SGD 8,500 ($6798) on him. Lim died eight days later of bronchopneumonia due to compound fracture of the left femur. Bharathi could have been jailed for up to two years or fined for causing death by doing a negligent act.
