Couple pledges daughters with money lender, police free them

Nizamabad, Jan 14, 2015: Believe it or not, a couple pledged their two daughters with their money lender as they failed to clear their loan of Rs.10,000 taken from him. Police, who came to know of the bizarre pledge, had intervened and freed the girls who have been working for the money lender for the last three months helping him in domestic works and in his metal industry. Police said the couple, Shivamma and Kashiram of Mosra village of Varni Mandal in Nizamabad district , had taken a loan of Rs.10,000 from a money lender Shankar three months ago with a promise to repay the loan by working for him. However, Shivamma fell sick and failed to work for him to repay the loan and shifted to a neighbouring village. To keep their word, the couple had mortgaged their two daughters aged 10 and 7 with him so that the two girls could work for him and repay the loan. The couple approached Shankar three days ago and sought his permission to take away the two girls for the Sankranti festival with a promise to send them again. But he bluntly refused. After some locals complained to the police about the pledge, Police intervened and freed the two girls. Later , the police called the couple and counseled them not to indulge in such things in the future.
