Jailed couples can have sex : Punjab HC

Chandigarh , Jan 7, 2015 : In a land mark judgment, Punjab and Haryana High Court ruled that jailed couples can have sex in their confined place and can also give birth to children. "It is not wrong for the jailed couples to have sex. Moreover, it is their fundamental right. They can also give birth to children," ruled Justice Surya Kant giving judgment on a petition filed by jailed couple Jasweer Singh and Sonia. The couple urged the court to allow them to have conjugal life in jail so that they can give birth to children. Agreeing with their arguments, Justice Surya Kanth said that according to Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, each and every citizen is at liberty to give birth to children and this liberty applies to jailed couples too. Justice Surya Kanth then ordered the jail officials to make arrangements for their privacy so that they can have conjugal life in their Patiala Jail and give birth to children.
