College girl commits suicide, ragging suspected
Nagarkurnool, October 20: A degree student committed suicide allegedly due to ragging in Nagarkurnool.
19-year-old Myna of Hanuman Thanda was studying degree in Dr BRR Government College in Jadcherla. On Wednesday morning she went to fields and consumed pesticide and returned home. Family members noticed her suffering with pain and shifted her to hospital. She died on Wednesday evening, while undergoing treatment.
Initially, the reasons for her suicide were unknown. But her parents raised doubts after a video related to ragging went viral on social media. The video showed that a person beating Myna. The victim’s parents demanded strict probe into the matter and to punish the culprits. They staged a protest at the college on Thursday.
Meanwhile, it came to know that the college management tried to keep the ragging issue confidential. Five lecturers reportedly gave counseling to Myna. Even the Principal allegedly threatened her not to reveal the matter to anyone.
