SP Balu statue removed in Guntur

Amaravathi, October 4: The statue of legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam was removed in Guntur. City municipal administration removed the statue the very next day citing lack of permits.
 
Kala Darbar organization has placed SP Balu’s statue at Mother Teresa staute at Lakshmipuram centre on Sunday night. The organization president Pothuri Ranga Rao said that they have informed District Collector and MLC Lella Appireddy about the statue. But it was removed and kept in the premises of water tankers.
 
Ranga Rao alleged that the officials didn’t heed to the requests of the public not to remove the statue. “We have been requesting for permission to install the statue for the past two years, but the officials are not heeding,” he said. Ranga Rao questioned, why the officials removed Balu’s statue when there are several statues of leaders at various centres. 
 
Guntur Municipal Corporation planning officer GSN Murthy said that as per the court directions, statues should not be installed at main centres and roads. The area where the singer’s statue was installed, is a busy traffic centre, hence it was removed.
