NTR Health University named after YSR, Amendment Bill before Assembly today
Amaravathi, September 21: The AP government is going to present an amendment bill in the Assembly on Wednesday changing the name of Dr NTR University of Health Sciences as Dr YSR Health University. Health Minister Vidadala Rajini will introduce the Dr NTR Health University Amendment Bill (2022) in the Assembly.
Former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao in 1983, after observing universities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, decided that there should be a special university for medical education. He established AP University of Health Sciences on November 1, 1986. The university included 26 medical, dental science, nursing and paramedical colleges including Vijayawada Siddhartha Medical College, which was a private one.
TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu during his rule as the CM changed the name of the university as NTR Health University in January 1998 and later on January 8, 2006, the then YSR government has changed the name as Dr NTR Health University. Since then, the University has been continuing in the two acres of land of Siddhartha Government Medical College.
