Sterilisation death: Medical superintendent suspended, doctor licence cancelled, says Harish

Hyderabad, August 31: Health Minister Harish Rao on Wednesday visited the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here and interacted with women, who are undergoing treatment for various complications arose out of family planning surgeries conducted at civil hospital in Ibrahimpatnam on August 25.
 
Speaking to the media, Harish said that health condition of 17 women admitted to NIMS and 13 in Apollo Hospitals is safe. “Some of them will be discharged on Wednesday and remaining on Thursday,” he mentioned.
 
Terming death of four women because of botched tubectomy as unfortunate, the minister announced that the state government suspended medical superintendent and cancelled the licence of doctor. 
 
“In the last seven years, 12 lakh family planning surgeries were performed but not a single incident of sterilisation death was reported,” he said and added that an expert committee headed by Director of Health will be constituted so that such incidents are not repeated.
