Ghulam Nabi Azad quits Congress, sends resignation letter to Sonia
Delhi, August 26: Former union minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad tendered resignation to the Congress. In a five-page letter sent to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, he said that he and 22 other Congress leaders were humiliated for writing a letter to strengthen the party by holding elections.
Azad mentioned that election process within the Congress is a farce and a sham as all decisions were taken by the coterie that runs the AICC. He went on to say that Sonia is nominal figurehead and all the important decisions were being taken by Rahul Gandhi or his security guards and PAs.
“It is therefore with great regret and an extremely leaden heart that I have decided to sever my half a century old association with Indian National Congress,” he stated. Responding, Telangana Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao faulted Azad for severing ties with the Congress in difficult times.
