Telangana govt to provide free insurance coverage for weavers

Hyderabad, August 2: The TRS government will launch ‘Nethanna Beema’, an insurance scheme for handloom weavers on August 7, on the National Handloom Day. Weavers aged below 60 years are eligible for the scheme and as many as 80,000 weavers will be benefitted.

IT Minister KT Rama Rao held a review meeting with the officials in Hyderabad on Monday. He said that they are introducing this scheme to extend financial help to the weavers and their families. Rs 5 lakh will be credited into the accounts of the family members within 10 days, if the beneficiary dies due to any reason.

KTR said that the government had signed an agreement with LIC to implement the scheme. He said the government will remit the premium annually and the weavers do not have to pay anything. Rs 50 crore was allocated for the scheme and Rs 25 crore was already released. District and State level committees were set up for implementing the scheme.
