Water level crossed danger mark at Kadem project, 12 villages evacuated

Nirmal, July 13: Kadem Project is receiving heavy inflows following rains from catchment areas. As the water level at reservoir crossed danger mark, officials of the Irrigation Department informed district collector and SP.

Speaking over phone, Minister A. Indrakaran Reddy said that inflow into the project was 5 to 6 lakh cusecs but it has capacity to discharge only 3 lakh cusecs after lifting all gates. Fearing that water might submerge human habitats, people living in 12 villages were shifted to relief camps, he mentioned.

Indrakaran further said that situation at dam was explained to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). The CM directed officials to monitor water level at project and take necessary precautions. “Roads leading to Khanpur were cut off due to heavy rains,” he stated.

The minister said that dam is safe now as full reservoir level came down to 700. “People from relief camps will be sent to their villages by Wednesday evening,” he added.
