In ‘filmi-style’ heist, over Rs 3.5 cr looted from bank
Nizamabad, July 5: In a filmi-style burglary, thieves broke in to a bank in Nizamabad district and looted gold worth Rs 3.5 crore on Sunday night. The robbery took place in Telangana Grameena Bank in Bussapur village, Mendora mandal.
Thieves broke the locks of shutters and entered the bank. They cut the CCTV camera connections and broke the device that will send alert message to the police. Later, they cut open the locker with gas cutter and decamped with 830 tulas of gold worth above Rs 3.5 crore. This gold was mortgaged by customers under gold loans.
About Rs 7.30 lakh cash and documents were burnt while the thieves were cutting the locker with gas cutters.
Police suspecting inter-State gang was involved in the robbery and launched investigation.
In another incident, unidentified persons looted AP Grameena Vikas Bank in Kukkunurpalli of Kondapaka mandal, Siddipet district and looted Rs 85,000 cash. They entered the bank by cutting the windows with gas cutter on Sunday night. They painted CCTV cameras inside the bank with black paint and broke the locker keys.
Police filed a case and took up investigation.
