Operation Bunty: Forest staff, cops catch bear in Srikakulam district

Srikakulam, June 21: Forest staff and cops under the supervision of DFO caught a bear at Kidisingi village on Tuesday morning. After the wild animal killed 72-year-old Kondanda Rao and injured eight others, Operation Bunty was initiated to catch the bear. A veterinarian from the Visakhapatnam Zoo arrived to the spot and fired tranquilizer darts at the bear.

Villagers in large number gathered to have a glimpse of bear when forest staff were shifting her to a cage from the shed. They were seen taking pictures of the animal. Former sarpanch of Kidisingi village said that they spent sleepless night for two days fearing bear might attack them. He thanked forest and zoo officials for catching the wild animal.

Speaking to the media, the DFO said that sedated bear will be shifted to the Visakhapatnam Zoo for medical treatment. “We will also monitor her health continuously,” he added. He further said that the bear will gain conscious after 45 minutes. More than 100 forest and police personnel participated in the Operation Bunty.
