Gouravelli project: Oustees protest turns violent

Husnabad, June 15: Husnabad turned into a ‘warzone’ after the protest of the oustees of Gouravelli reservoir project became violent, in which some protestors and policemen were injured. ACP Vasala Satish received head injuries while SI Sridhar was injured.
 
Residents of Gudatipalli village, which will be submerged due to the reservoir, have been demanding the government for compensation before starting the trail run. They participated in ‘Husnabad band’, a call given by Congress on Tuesday, protesting against the lathi charge in Gudatipalli on Monday.
 
 Meanwhile, TRS leaders and activists in large numbers went to Husnabad MLA Satish Kumar camp office to submit a memorandum seeking to conduct trial run of Gouravelli reservoir. After knowing this, the oustees also reached the MLA camp office. 
 
The oustees and TRS activists pushed each other and furled stones. Police tried to stop them and started lathi charge. Police, oustees and TRS activists attached one another with pipes. ACP Satish was injured in stone pelting by the oustees. Husnabad SI Sridhar fell down. 
 
Once again jostling took place when some women prevented the police, who were shifting a few oustees attacked the cops to police station. Three women were injured and were shifted to hospital. 
 
BJP State chief Bandi Sanjay visited the oustees protest camp and enquired about the lathi charge. He assured them that he will take the issue to the notice of the Governor. He accused CI Raghupati Reddy as responsible for the lathi charge and demanded to suspend him immediately.
