Auto driver poses as cop, cheats old people
Hyderabad, June 6: An auto driver was held for cheating people posing as police personnel in Hyderabad. LB Nagar police arrested the auto driver and recovered 16 gms gold ornaments, Rs 11,000 cash, a mobile and a knife. He was sent for remand on Sunday.
According to police, Ramavath Naresh (30) of Devathpalli Thanda, Nalgonda district, lives in Ramanthapur, Hyderabad and runs auto. As the money he warns was not sufficient, he started cheating people and he went to jail also.
On May 28, a senior citizen took Ramavath’s auto in Chaitanyapuri police station limits. The auto driver told him that he is a police official and threatened the passenger of robbing a gold chain. The driver took away a gold ring and Rs 20,000 cash from the senior citizen.
On May 30, Ramavath threatened a man at LB Nagar and took away Rs 1,500 cash. On June 1, posing as a SI, he forcibly asked a senior citizen at Nagole chowrasta to sit in his auto and robbed him of a gold ring.
Following the victims’ complaints, LB Nagar police registered a case and searching for the accused. They found the auto driver Ramavath moving suspiciously near LB Nagar ring road and took him into custody. During interrogation, the accused agreed of committing the crimes. Police seized items worth Rs 80,000 and sent him to remand.
