Floods displace 120,000 people in Indonesia's Aceh

Jakarta, Dec 24: Floods in Indonesia's Aceh province in the northern tip of Sumatra island have displaced at least 120,966 people, an official said here Wednesday. Water levels rose to 400 cm in the districts of North Aceh and East Aceh, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of national disaster agency, told Xinhua over phone. Those being trapped or affected by the floods are being evacuated by soldiers, police, and local disaster agency officials, the spokesman said. Other areas being inundated by the waters include the provincial capital, Banda Aceh, the districts of Aceh Tamiang, South Aceh, Pidie, and Lhoksemawe, said Sutopo. Emergency relief aid has been sent to the centres of evacuation, he said.
