Total plastic ban in Tirumala from today

Tirupati, June 1: Total ban on plastic including plastic bottles, bags, covers etc will come into force from Wednesday (June 1).

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) took the decision to protect the environment. TTD officials issued several orders to the shop owners and hotel managements at a meeting held here.

The orders include – separation of wet and dry garbage in separate dust bins; only those items permitted are to be sold; and shop owners should take up mass cleaning from 1 pm to 3 pm on every Tuesday.

The officials warned that vigilance and health staff will conduct surprise inspection and will siege the shops if they found any plastic items. They requested the shop owners and others to cooperate with them in plastic ban for a good cause.

TTD has completely banned plastic bottles, bags and covers in Tirumala. Non-plastic items only are being allowed after a thorough check at Alipiri check point. The show owners were asked to use biodegradable or paper covers instead of plastic covers for the goods they sell. Even plastic shampoo packets are banned.

Meanwhile, the State government decided to ban plastic items in all the temples across the State. Puja related items will not be allowed in plastic covers into the temples. The officials are considering banning plastic covers in distributing prasadam also. The plastic ban in temples across the State will come into effect from July 1.
