520 medical seats in Telangana cancelled

Hyderabad, May 31: National Medical Commission (MNC) has cancelled admissions in three private medical colleges in the State, throwing the students’ future in quandary. 
 
Undergraduate and PG courses in MNR Medical College in Sangareddy, Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences in Vikarabad and TRR Institute of Medical Sciences, Patancheru.
 
The Central health department conducted sudden inspections at the medical colleges recently. It found out that there were no basic facilities, lecturers were not appointed as per the requirement, not enough laboratories etc. Hence, NMC informed that it had cancelled 520 seats in these three medical colleges.
 
NMC issued orders in this regard to the managements of these three colleges. 
 
Following this, the managements of the three private colleges appealed against the NMC decision. They said students will suffer due to the cancellation of seats.
 
It should be noted here normally NMC will conduct sudden inspections prior to admissions and will give permission for admissions into medical colleges. It gave permission to several medical colleges regarding 2021-22 admissions in last November. 
 
About 450 seats of first year MBBS were filled in these three colleges and 70 PG seats in MNR and Mahavir colleges.
 
Meanwhile, the students of the three colleges are going to meet Health Minister T Harish Rao to explain their plight in the wake of cancellation of seats. Sources from Kaloji Narayanarao Health University informed that High Court ordered the NMC to take a suitable decision in this regard after a private college management appealed to the Court.
