Minister Harish Rao fires on doctors at Jangaon MCH
Jangaon, May 15: Health Minister T Harish Rao fired on doctors and staff of Mother and Child Hospital (MCH), Champak Hills in Jangaon for directing patients to purchase medicines at private medical shops.
He paid a surprise visit to the MCH on Saturday, on his way to Siddipet. He interacted with pregnant women at general ward and enquired about the services being provided there. Responding to this, pregnant women and their relatives complained to the Minister that the hospital staff are writing prescription on cigarette box cases. ‘Even they are telling us to purchase medicines from outside. We are buying injections and syrups from outside,’ they wailed.
Minister Harish got angry over this and questioned the doctors and staff as to why they were referring the patients to purchase medicines at private medical shops when the government is supplying medicines. He ordered the officials to seize the medical shops in front of the MCH.
The Minister directed the hospital superintendent Dr Sugunakar Raju to provide free scanning services to pregnant women in MCH. Later he spoke with Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Vakati Karuna over phone and asked her to submit a detailed report on Jangaon MCH.
