Stampede kills woman as pensioners rush to collect their pittance

Vijayawada, Dec 22, 2014: In a tragic incident, a lady pensioner has died in a stampede at Chittinagar in Vijayawada on Monday. Pensioners have started gathering in large number at a revenue office in Chittinagar even from the wee hours of Monday and by 10 am, the numbers swelled. Neither police or revenue officials were there to control the pensioners or organise them into a queue. When the officials opened the gates of the office, all of them rushed towards the cash counters to collect their pension. The mad rush has resulted in a stampede and an old lady was severely injured in the incident. She died on way to hospital. Two others were injured in the melee. Later, the locals organised protest holding her dead body condemning the careless attitude of the officials.
